PORTESE
Slow life on the lake
Portese is a small town nestled in the hills of the Valtènesi, amongst vineyards and olive groves overlooking the gulf of Salò and the mountains of the Upper Garda Park. A fishing and farming town, Portese has for centuries made a living from the nearby lake and land. Now times have changed but we can still say that life in Portese is slow.
Le Chiusure is located in the oldest part of the village, right next to the ruins of the medieval castle, with our vineyards and olive grove on the other side. An old stone wall surrounds the property and protects the privacy of those that choose to spend some time at our estate. At the entrance two century-old mulberry trees and a small chapel built in the 1700s introduce you to the courtyard structured in the typical fashion of rural houses around the lake.
LE CHIUSURE
A quiet holiday within an old stone wall
The apartments have all been restored and decorated in keeping with the style of the house. From the windows you can enjoy views of the hills, the garden and the inner courtyard. Our guests have at their disposal a cozy garden and a small library of books and photographs describing the lake and the surrounding areas.
Three apartments (originally an old loft, a barn and a porch respectively) are located on different floors of the home all offering something unique. A fourth apartment, located on the northernmost side of the property features a private entrance and garden.
A 17TH CENTURY RURAL ESTATE

Our holiday apartments are part of a large 17th century rural estate, whose architectural and historic value is protected under Italian law. Since we started farmhouse hospitality – in 1994 with our first apartment, three others restored in 1997, 2001 and 2014 – we estimate that we have welcomed about 800 families overall. Over the years we have enhanced the quality of our apartments, investing each winter in maintenance and improvements.
A HOLIDAY ON LAKE GARDA
At walking distance from the water
The lake is the principal reason for holidays in our area, mainly in the summer months where numerous activities can be undertaken. Water temperature usually allows swimming from mid May to the end of September.
The lake can also be enjoyed in many other ways. From the small port of Portese (500 meters from Le Chiusure) you can take the public boat link that allows you to experience a panoramic view of the lake in a slow and peaceful fashion. You can also hike or bike up the hillsides, with stunning views of the lake and its surroundings. Sailboats, motorboats and canoes are available for hire in many locations along the lake.
Close to the historic cities
Many foreigners visit Italy for its cities and towns where the extraordinary cultural and historic legacy is still so much part of our present. There are certain seasons, spring and autumn especially, when the lake becomes the backdrop to a different kind of vacation.
Lake Garda is often chosen for its central location with respect to the major north Italian cities, Venice and Milan are at approximately one hour and a half from Le Chiusure. Closer by are Verona, Mantua, Brescia, Bergamo, Padua and Vicenza. The squares, monuments, museums and their atmosphere are an exceptional experience for those seeking out the essence of our country.
Among vineyards and olive groves
Le Chiusure is first and foremost a wine and olive oil producing farm. The harvest period and the initial processing of the grapes (September and October) are the most interesting periods of the year, together with the olive picking weeks in November. We wish to underline the fact that guests are physically close to the vineyards, the cellar and the olive groves during their holiday at Le Chiusure.
In a secluded garden

Far away from the main roads, in rooms set in an ancient rural building, furnished simply but with taste, rich in charm and personality, and with the possibility of enjoying a large garden surrounded by a stone wall which guarantees our guests quiet isolation.
